Migrants Supporting Migrants (MSM) 

  • Employment Support Group (ESG)

 

An 8-week course with life skills content and covers enhancement of job search skills, understanding the NZ employment market.

 

  • Micro Enterprise Development (MED)

 

A one-to-one support for migrants and refugees who wish to be self-employed by starting a micro-enterprise. Existing micro-enterprise is also supported in areas of business expansion, marketing, finance, accounting and taxation.

 

  • Mentoring

 

Well-settled migrants are encouraged to mentor the job seeking migrants. A one-to-one session, volunteers mentor job seekers in their journey to find meaningful employment.

 

  • Voluntary Work Experience

 

Aiming to overcome the “lack of Kiwi experience” barrier to employment, migrants will work for 4 weeks in voluntary capacity to gain New Zealand work experience (subject to availability of employer partners).

 

  • Jobsearch Support Group at the Libraries

 

In cooperation with various libraries and making use of their strategic location and resources, we meet jobseekers at the libraries to provide face-to-face job search support.   • e-jobsearch Assistance

 

An on-line assistance to migrants specifically on CV and cover letter writing. Phone assistance regarding job interview is also available.

 

  • Work Brokering and Job Placement

 

Presently, job alerts are received from employers which are forwarded to migrants in our database – some modest success here where migrants have found employment. This will eventually develop into building relationship with employers and recruitment agencies to provide suitable migrant candidates.

Offering to act as support person for migrants with issues and concerns in the workplace.

  • Professional Migrants Group

A one-to-one career type of counseling to help address issues as a result unemployment or underemployment.

Research, get updates and advise migrants of current issues such as immigration, tax etc affecting their employment situation and re-direct migrants to relevant agency as deemed necessary

 

  • Intensive Migrant-Specific Jobsearch Training/Workshop

 

An interactive 4-day training workshop specially designed for migrants, job searching in New Zealand (as opposed to a New Zealander job searching in New Zealand).

 


Assimilation to Integration (A2I) 

  • Conscious Parenting (ethnic specific).

 

Orientation and small group meeting for new migrants to provide information and awareness of New Zealand laws regarding parenting and other family laws as well parenting in a multi-cultural environment.

 

  • Individual Counseling (family and other related issues)

 

A one-to-one preventative type of counseling to help address the issues and challenges of migrants’ settlement which also has bearing on the family, children and their relationship to one another

 

  • Household Items to new settlers

 

In partnership with Donate NZ, a web-based broker of donated goods, provide household items for migrants and refugees who are unable to afford especially at early stages of their lives in New Zealand

 

  • MiBuddy

 

A Kiwi youth between the ages of 13 to 17 mentoring migrant youth of similar age, this aims to bring an understanding of one another’s culture as well as assist the migrant youth in coping with the challenges in school, relationship and peer pressure.
